Handmade In Aotea

All Aotea products are handmade on Aotea (Great Barrier Island) New Zealand using native flora grown, harvested, extracted, and bottled by our team. Our ingredients are predominantly natural, with a focus on organic sources whenever feasible. While we prioritize organic ingredients, it's essential to acknowledge that not all can be certified organic due to being wild-harvested, reflecting the unique nature of our island-based production process.

The Aotea essentials pack contains:

1 x Kawakawa Balm

Our multi-purpose soothing balm is based on the traditional use of Kawakawa for irritations, abrasions, and inflammation. Kawakawa leaves naturally have high anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and analgesic properties, making their extracts incredibly beneficial for relieving skin issues. Made with Sweet Almond and Mānuka Oil, and beeswax from our own bee hives, this Kawakawa Balm is the natural and native skincare remedy that is perfect for dry lips, skin irritations (eczema and psoriasis), bites, sores, and nappy rash.

1 x Kūmarahou and Mānuka Hand & Body Wash

A gentle wash containing kūmarahou and mānuka honey to effectively cleanse without stripping the skin. Kūmarahou, Pomaderris Kumarahou, has a very high saponin content. Saponin is a surfactant, which means that it can naturally foam into a lather. Most conventional soaps contain chemicals to create foam. Kūmarahou was traditionally referred to as 'gum diggers soap', as the gum diggers of the 1800s would use kūmarahou and water to remove kauri gum or tree sap from their hands when they were working. We have included mānuka oil to our formulation, acting as a powerful natural disinfectant. This hand and body wash is beautifully gentle, very healing and 100% natural.

1 x Mānuka Oil

A multi-purpose, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal oil that effectively cleans the skin. This oil has a wide range of uses such as treating acne, as well as reducing general redness and inflammation by clearing congested pores. You can also use to naturally treat cuts, abrasions, and to support wound healing by killing infection-causing bacteria. Research shows that Mānuka oil contains a vast range of terpenoids that inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi. It is 30x more powerful than Tea Tree Oil and is considered to be one of the most potent 100% natural disinfectants on the planet.

Ingredients

Kūmarahou

The kūmarahou flowers contain saponins, which are natural surfactants that produce a foamy lather, which can gently cleanse your hands and body without using the harsh chemicals normally found in soaps to create foam.

Antimicrobial Antiseptic Anti-inflammatory Moisturising

Mānuka

Like our other inputs, our Mānuka oil is extracted onsite at our farm. The oil is used extensively in our range exhibiting anti-microbial and healing qualities. We also use Mānuka hydrosol which is a by-product of our distillation process that closes pores in the skin and is incredibly restorative.

Antibacterial Antifungal Antiseptic

Kawakawa

Kawakawa is revered among Māori as being super healing and restorative. We pick the Kawakawa leaves from our land on Aotea. Our Kawakawa extract is 100% natural and made by steeping the leaves for one week in sweet almond oil.
